resume
Nicole
Mermans was one of the founding members of Canopy
Studio, an aerial dance studio in Athens, Georgia, aiding director
Susan Murphy in turning a vision into reality when doors opened in
Spring of 2002. For more than three years Nicole was the business
manager, trapeze instructor, head aerial fabrics instructor and performer
and choreographer for the aerial dance repertoire company. Nicole
has always had a strong
passion for dance, taking her first ballet
class
at
age five. Her
first exposure to the aerial world was through the circus programs
at Club Med where she had a chance to fly and try the static trapeze,
but it wasn't until 1998, when she had the opportunity to receive
private instruction and perform on the Spanish Web, that Nicole truly
fell in love with the aerial arts. Since then, Nicole has studied
dance trapeze and apprenticed as an instructor under Susan Murphy.
In addition, she studied the Spanish web, aerial fabrics, and duo
trapeze with other professionals such as Cindy Alana, and Elsie and
Serenity Smith of Gemini Trapeze.
Nicole has performed
in the Moscow State Circus across the southeast, with CORE modern
dance company in Athens, GA
and on their 2004 China tour, corparate venues, night clubs, fundraising
events and dance concerts. Nicole’s
other life passions include salsa dancing, water-skiing and wakeboarding,
playing soccer and spending time with her dog Bailey.

Andrea
Fors, born in Atlanta, Georgia, found her love for aerial dance several
years ago while attending the University of Georgia. After enduring
a knee injury in college, which ended her volleyball career, she
sought something else that would bring her the same joy. She started
to learn the art of dance trapeze under Susan Murphy, who instructed
the art at UGA and later went on to open Canopy
Studio, a flying dance trapeze and movement arts studio. Andrea
is currently a trapeze instructor at the studio in Athens, Georgia.
Andrea’s training experience includes apprenticing under
Susan Murphy, private instruction with Elsie and Serenity Smith
of Gemini
Trapeze and countless hours training on various apparatus including
the trapeze, lyra, fabrics, Spanish Web and custom built equipment
with good friend and dance partner, Nicole Mermans. Andrea’s
performance experience includes nightclub venues, corporate events,
benefit shows, and dance concerts such as Big Box Blues, and Cycle,
performing locally and as far away as Montego Bay, Jamaica. Andrea
also enjoys cooking, being outdoors, and loves animals!
